Mill Creek is a growing community located just east of Lynnwood along the I-5 corridor in Snohomish County. It is home to a diverse population of 17,770. The City of Mill Creek is a part of a larger vision that has been developing since the 1950’s. The idea of open, free and outdoors. The Mill Creek Town Center is completed and the majority of the SR 527 Corridor Subarea has been developed with multifamily residential neighborhoods. SR 527 has been widened to five lanes between 164th Street SE and SR 96. This development activity implements the City’s Land Use Plan to create a vibrant, livable community, where residents can live, work and play. CREATING A NAMESAKE In 2000, the City was successful in officially designating a small creek, locally referred to as Smokehouse Creek, as Mill Creek. The idea for establishing an official name for the creek was generated by the Mill Creek City Council. Because the creek flows through the Town Center site (then undeveloped), they reasoned, it should be given a name that complements the Town Center and establishes a namesake for the City. After some discussion, it was decided that the creek should be named Mill Creek. City planners appeared before the State Board of Geographic Names, and in December 2000, the City’s request to name the creek Mill Creek was approved.

Sunday, September 28th, from 1-3:30 p.m. at City Hall - Mill Creek will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary! Wow, has this town changed. I moved here over 20 years ago, and it just keeps getting better. There will be entertainment, birthday cake, souvenirs and the sealing of a “Time Capsule”. Hope they don’t include the politics of today :)

While in town, go check out the new Town Center - it’s walkable, interesting, and has lots of nice shops.
